Women’s Golf Team in First Place, Men In Fifth After First Day Of MIAC Championships

The Gustavus women’s had a solid first day at the MIAC Golf Championships with a team score of 324, while the men struggled a bit and find themselves in fifth place at 314. The tournament is being played at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minn.

The women, who lead rival St. Thomas (328) by four strokes. Taylor Drenttel (Eagan, Minn.) is currently in second place individually after a strong first round score of 78. Kimbra Kosak (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Katie Schenfeld (So., Indianola, Iowa) are tied for third place with first round scores of 80.

The men, who trail first place Saint John’s (300) by 14 strokes, were led by Ricky Copeland (Jr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) with a 75. Copeland is currently in a tie for fourth place. Joel Schoolmeesters of Saint John’s is in first place individually with a first round score of 71. Josh Curb (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) and John Anderson (Fy., Appleton, Wis.) are tied for 18th with first round scores of 79.

The second round will begin on Saturday morning at Bunker Hills Golf Club.
