The Gustavus men’s soccer team scored two second half goals and held on for a 2-0 non-conference win over Grinnell College on Sunday afternoon in St. Peter. Flynn Stewart-Franzen and Ben Ikeda scored goals for Gustavus, while goalkeeper Matt Strom picked up the shutout in the nets.

Flynn Stewart-Franzen gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute when he headed in a corner kick from Skylar Schulz. Coach Larry Zelenz’s squad controlled play for most of the second half out-shooting the Pioneers 8-2 in the final 45 minutes. Gustavus secured the win in the 81st minute when Ben Ikeda headed in a rebound off a shot by Max Malmquist.

Luke Strom played all 90 minutes in goal and claimed his fifth shutout of the season. Strom is now 7-2-1 on the season with a 0.83 goals against average.

Gustavus will have two conference matches this week including a contest at Augsburg on Wednesday night in Minneapolis and then Bethel in St. Peter on Saturday.
