Women’s Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision At Carleton Posted on September 27th, 2008 by

The Gustavus women’s soccer team traveled to Northfield, Minn. for a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against the Knights of Carleton College. After a scoreless first half, Carleton was able to take the lead in the 71st minute from a goal by Nicky Bloom. Senior goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson made four saves for the Gusties in the loss. Gustavus falls to 2-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the MIAC, while Carleton moves to 5-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in MIAC play.

Gustavus played another tightly contested first half, but neither team was able to beat the goalkeepers as the match remained tied 0-0 heading into halftime. After the intermission, Carleton’s Nicky Bloom scored her team leading sixth goal of the season. She put in a cross from teammate Lily VanderStaay for the only goal of the match coming in the 71st minute. Gustavus held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks over Carleton, but the Knights’ Yusi He saved all three Gustie shots that came her way.

After scoring three goals on the road Wednesday, the Gusties were shut out for the fourth time this season, three of which have come on the road. Gustavus goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson made four saves in the loss and falls to 1-3-2 on the season, despite her goals against average of 0.72, which ranks fourth in the MIAC. Getting the win in goal for the Knights was Yusi He, who improves to 3-2-0 on the season.

After a three-game road trip, the Gusties return home for their next seven matches. The first is a non-conference match against the Blue Devils from the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Wednesday, October 1. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
