Men’s Golf Opens Season With Solid Second Place Finish at Augsburg Invitational Posted on September 7th, 2008 by

The Gustavus men’s golf team opened its 2008 season with a second and 12 place finishes out of 17 teams at the Augsburg Invitational which was played at the Oakdale Golf Club on Saturday and the Crow River Golf Club on Sunday. The Gustavus Gold squad posted a 36-hole team score of 294-317–611 to finish 14 shots behind first place Bethel at 289-308–597. Ricky Copeland finished second individually at 71-76–147. The Gustavus Black team finished 12th with a score of 309-337–646.

The Gustavus Gold team, paced by Copeland’s 147, also included John Anderson, who finished in a tie for 12th at 75-78–153, A.J. Olson, who finished in a tie for 17th at 69-85–154, Derek Hilding, who finished in a tie for 40th at 79-82–161, and Robbie Schmidt, who finished in a tie for 60th at 83-81–164.

The Gustavus Black team consisted of Alex Pederson (79-80–159, 30th tie), Josh Curb (77-83–160, 34th tie), Mike Boosalis (76-86–162, 50th tie), Ben Bauknecht (77-88–165, 67th tie), and Tony Meierhofer (84-88–172, 81st tie).

The Gusties will take part in the Saint John’s Invitational next Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s round will take place at Greystone Country Club in Sauk Centre, while Sunday’s round will be played at Blackberry Ridge in St. Cloud.
