The Gustavus women’s soccer team opened its 2008 season with a convincing 3-0 non-conference home win over the University of Minnesota at Morris. Chelsea Craven, Ashley Voigtlander, and Christy Tupy all scored for the Gusties, while Ashley Ohlson and Chelsey Bayer combined for the shutout in the nets.

Craven gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 41st minute. Nicole Kwapick was credited with the assist. Gustavus maintained its 1-0 lead throughout most of the second half and then broke the game open with goals by Voigtlander in the 82nd minute and Tupy in the 88th minute.

Gustavus controlled play for most of the match outshooting the Cougars 12-2 including an 11-0 advantage on shots on goal.

The Gusties will play their next match at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday, September 5 at 5:00 pm.
