Gustavus Adolphus women’s golfers Rachel Roberg, Kali Griggs, and Kimbra Kosak have been invited to participate in the Best Buy Charity Classic on June 26-28 in Minneapolis. All three individuals earned invitations to participate by being named to the National Golf Coaches Association Division III All-America Teams this season.

Rachel Roberg, a native of Rice Lake, Wis., was selected to the All-America First Team and named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Senior Women’s Player of the Year in 2008. She finished the season with a 79.7 stroke average, which is tied for the lowest season average in program history. A two-time All-American, Roberg did not finish lower than seventh place in 10 of the 12 tournaments she competed in this season.

Kali Griggs, a native of Burnsville, Minn., was selected to the All-America Second Team. Griggs posted four top-five finishes in 12 tournaments including medalist honors at the Wartburg Invitational in September and the Minnesota Women’s College Golf Association (MWCGA) State Tournament.

Kimbra Kosak, a native of Grand Rapids, Minn., was named honorable mention All-America as well as being named the Division III Kim Moore Spirit Award winner. Kosak turned in five top five finishes this season, and finished tied for sixth place at the NCAA Championships with a school-record total of 303.

“It is very exciting to have three of our players participating in this prestigious event. Rachel, Kimbra, and Kali certainly deserve the recogniton. They led our squad in setting numerous team records, and earned individual honors as well. It will be a great experience for them to play in this event and be given the opportunity to showcase their talents and display what abilities Gustavus golfers have to offer. I cannot think of better representatives of Division III golf and Gustavus,” said women’s golf coach Scott Moe.

Over the past decade, this event, supporting the Best Buy Children’s Foundation, has encompassed a celebration of women’s professional golf. In recognition of the 2008 U.S. Women’s Open to be held at Interlachen Country Club in Minneapolis, Best Buy elected to alter the traditional format to honor the All-American selections of women’s collegiate golf.

Roberg, Griggs, and Kosak, along with the other invitees, will be honored at a gala on Thursday, June 26 and then participate in the Best Buy Charity Classic College Am on Friday, June 27 at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, Minn. All honorees will have the opportunity to attend the U.S. Women’s Open on Saturday, June 28.
