Gymnasts Aryn Bell, Laura Hansen Finish Year at NCGA Championships

Gustavus gymnasts Aryn Bell and Laura Hansen completed their 2008 seasons by competing at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships at Cortland State University in Cortland, New York.

Bell, a junior from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, was making her first appearance at the NCGA Championships. She recorded a score of 9.225 and finished in a tie for 42nd on the vault out of 55 competitors. Justine Weyer of UW-Whitewater and Gabi Hooper of UW-La Crosse tied for first place with a score of 9.675.

Hansen, a junior from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, was making her third appearance at the NCGA Championships, but her first on the balance beam as she had qualified on the uneven bars the past two years. Hansen placed 52nd on the balance beam with a score of 8.475. Naomi Delara of UW-Stout finished first with a score of 9.80.

The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association handed out its academic awards at the national meet and four Gustavus gymnasts were honored for their work in the classroom. The four who were named Senior All-Americans in Academics included Danielle Berg, Kelsie Droogsma, Kasey Lyng, and Kyleen Oleson.
