Late Rally Not Enough As Women’s Basketball Loses To Concordia 64-60

Molly Mathiowetz scored eight points in a late 14-3 surge by the Gustavus women's basketball team, but still suffered a 64-60 loss to Concordia in Moorhead, Minn. on Wednesday night. The Cobbers hit a season-high eight three-pointers as they won their sixth straight contest to improve to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the MIAC. Gustavus, which has lost four of the last five games, dropped to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Laura Vannelli Named MIAC Women’s Hockey Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College senior defender Laura Vannelli (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored a power play goal at 8:55 of the second period to tie the score at 1-1 against No. 9 Wis.-Superior on Friday, Dec. 14 in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties, who are ranked No. 8, added another goal in the third period and went on to claim the important 2-1 non-conference victory. Vannelli, who's goal came with :04 left on the power play,

Men’s Basketball Game Against Saint Mary’s Will Be Broadcast on KNUJ AM Instead of KRDS FM

The Gustavus men's basketball game scheduled for Monday, January 8 at 7:30 pm against Saint Mary University in St. Peter will be broadcast on KNUJ 860 AM, instead of KRDS 95.5 FM. Normally, all weeknight broadcasts are carried on KRDS 95.5 FM, while all Saturday afternoon games are broadcast on KNUJ 860 AM. Tom Wheeler will once again handle the play-by-play of the broadcast.

Women’s Basketball Snaps Losing Skid With 75-67 Win Over Saint Mary’s

In a physical contest where both squads combined to commit 47 fouls, the Gustavus women's basketball team used 27 points from the free throw line to post a 75-67 victory over Saint Mary's in Winona, Minn. on Wednesday night. Four Gustie players hit double-digit scoring including a game-high 27 points from Jess Vadnais (Sr., Hudson, Wis.).

Men’s Basketball Holds Off Late Saint Mary’s Rally to Claim 85-79 Victory

The Gustavus men's basketball team used a 9-0 spurt late in the second half to build a 12-point lead at 76-64 with 4:01 remaining and then held on for an 85-79 win in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties extended their current win streak to seven games and improved their record to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in MIAC play. Senior wing Kane Sivesind scored a career-high 26 points to lead Gustavus.

Former Gustavus Baseball Player Tony Konicek Signs Professional Contract with Evansville Otters

Outfielder Tony Konicek, a two-time first-team NCAA Division III All-American from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minn., has signed a 2008 contract with the Evansville (Indiana) Otters of the Frontier League.

Nordic Ski Team Finishes 14th In The College Cup At U.S. Nationals

The Gustavus nordic ski teams combined for a 14th place finish in the College Cup at the United States Cross Country Ski Championships in Houghton, Michigan. The Golden Gusties also finished fifth among Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) schools. Northern Michigan University took first place for the second straight year nationally and in the CCSA. Final standings for the College Cup were determined with results from each school's top three skiers in each gender comprising an overall score.

Cold Shooting Dooms Women’s Basketball In 63-59 Loss To St. Catherine

St. Catherine used a 13-0 run during a five minute span in the second half to defeat Gustavus 63-59 in St. Paul, Minn. on Saturday. The Golden Gusties shot a dismal 24% from the floor in the second half as the team was outscored 34-24 by the Wildcats in the period. Three Wildcat players reached double-figures to help St. Catherine defeat Gustavus for the first time since the 1986-87 season.

Men’s Hockey Drops Third Straight, Loses to Marian 4-0

The Gustavus men's hockey team never got on track in a disappointing 4-0 loss to Marian College at Don Roberts Ice Rink on the Gustavus campus on Saturday night. The Gusties were unable to generate much of any offense against the Sabres and put little pressure on goaltender Jason Jadczak, while Marian on the other hand made the most of its chances scoring four goals on 20 shots. Gustavus has now lost three consecutive games and falls to 6-7-0 on the season, while Marian improves to 8-5-0.

Men’s Hockey Falls To UW-Stevens Point 2-1

The Gustavus men's hockey team jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ben Ollila midway through the second period, but UW-Stevens Point countered with two goals in the next seven minutes and held on for a 2-1 non-conference win over the Gusties at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter on Friday night.
