The Gustavus women’s swimming and diving team dropped its final dual meet of the season in a 170-130 decision against Carleton in Northfield on Saturday. The Golden Gusties won four events and finished second in nine events, but that was not enough to overtake the Knights. Of those events, Coach Carlson’s squad claimed first and second place in three events, including the 200 IM and the 1- and 3-meter diving.

First-place finishes were turned in by Carrie Gundersen (So., Minnetonka, Minn.) in the 500 freestyle (5:18.64) and Christi O’Connor (So., Great Falls, Mont.) in the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.59. Strong performances were turned in by the female divers as Maria Freund (So., Buffalo, Minn.) captured first in the 1-meter diving competition with 208.50 points. Brittani Matzke (So., Buffalo, Minn.) also grabbed first-place in the 3-meter diving competition with 194.05 points.

Gustavus will host the Gustavus Invitational on Saturday, February 2 in Lund Natatorium at 10 a.m. This will be the last competition for the team before preparing for the MIAC championships on February 14-16.
