The Gustavus women’s gymnastics team posted a season high score of 174.10 and finished second out of four teams at the University of Wisconsin-Stout Invitational held Friday night in Menomonie, Wis. First year gymnast Kelly Mathewson finished third in the all-around with a total of 35.475.

The Gusties posted season high totals on the vault (44.975), uneven bars (42.375), and balance beam (43.10), and added a score of 43.65 on the floor exercise to reach their season high total of 174.10.

Kelly Mathewson continued to impress as she registered a career best all-around total of 35.475. The first year from Maple Grove, Minn. (Osseo HS) scored 9.025 on the vault (8th) , 9.075 on the uneven bars (2nd), 8.20 on the balance beam (20th), and 9.175 on the floor exercise (6th).

The Gusties best team score of the night was on the vault where Danielle Berg (9.075) and Aryn Bell (9.075) tied for fourth, Kelly Mathewson (9.025) tied for eighth, Christine Askham (9.00) tied for 10th, and Jessica Dolan (8.80) tied for 18th.

Other top finishes included Christine Askham placing third on the uneven bars (8.85) and fifth on the floor exercise (9.225), Laura Hansen finishing ninth on the uneven bars (8.75), Jessica Dolan placing seventh on the balance beam (8.975), and Julia Kruchoski finishing eighth on the balance beam (8.925).

The Gusties will host their 2008 home opener this Thursday, Jan. 31 with a triangular meet against UW-Eau Claire and Winona State University. The meet, which will be held in the Lund Forum, will begin at 7:00 pm.
