Men’s Basketball Unable To Slow Down No. 19 Whitworth In 79-58 Loss

The Gustavus men's basketball suffered its third straight loss in a 79-58 decision to No. 19 Whitworth University in the final day of the Ameriprise Whitworth Classic on Monday in San Francisco, California. Sam Paulson was the only Gustie to reach double figures with 16 points followed by eight points from Jesse Van Sickle. Whitworth had four players record double-digit points, including David Riley, who tallied 24 on 9-for-12 shooting from the field.

Men’s Basketball Suffers Disappointing 102-79 Loss To University of Puget Sound

The Gustavus men's basketball team lost to the University of Puget Sound 102-79 at the Ameriprise Whitworth Classic on Sunday. The tournament is being played at Burlingame High School near San Francisco, California. Gustavus was led in scoring by Robbie Schmidt with 15 points. Mychal Crowder was the only other Gustie in double figures with a career-high 11 points.

Safety Joe Welch Named to D3football.com All-America Team

Gustavus Adolphus junior safety Joe Welch (Hastings, Minn.) has been named to the 2008 D3football.com All-America Team. Welch, who was selected to the Third Team Defense, is the second Gustavus player to ever be named to the D3football.com All-America team joining Andy Traetow who was a second team selection as a return specialist in 2000.

Women’s Basketball Suffers First Loss With 72-68 Setback At Wartburg

The Gustavus women's basketball team lost a non-conference contest to Wartburg College 72-68 in Waverly, Iowa on Sunday night. It was the Gusties first loss of the season. Katie Layman led Gustavus in scoring with 17 points.

Ross Ring-Jarvi Named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College first-year forward Ross Ring-Jarvi (Anoka, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending December 15, 2008. Ring-Jarvi tallied three points on one goal and two assists in the Gusties' 6-3 win over No. 13 UW-Stevens Point on Saturday in Stevens Point, Wis.

Men’s Hockey Gets Back On Track With 6-3 Win Over UW-Stevens Point

The Gustavus men's hockey team scored three goals in the third period to defeat 13th-ranked UW-Stevens Point 6-3 on Saturday night in Stevens Point, Wis. Special teams played an important part in the win as the Gusties recorded two power-play goals and one shorthanded goal. Several players got in on the scoring as six different players accounted for the goals, while David Martinson and Ross Ring-Jarvi led the way with one goal and two assists each.

Joe Welch Named to D3football.com All-West Region First Team Defense

Gustavus Adolphus junior safety Joe Welch (Hastings, Minn.) is one of nineteen Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) football student-athletes to have been named to the 2008 D3football.com All-West Region Team. The nineteen chosen from the MIAC is more than any other conference in the region. Welch was selected to the First Team Defense.

Men’s Swimming Finishes Second At Falcon Invitational

The Gustavus men's swimming team finished second out of nine teams in the red division at the Falcon Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and held at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center in Minneapolis on Saturday. The Gusties recorded 539 points behind Luther College, which tallied 788 points. Josh Seaburg turned in two top-three finishes, including a first-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:19.90.

Last Second Basket Sinks Men’s Basketball In 52-50 Loss To Augsburg

The Gustavus men's basketball team suffered its first loss in the MIAC as Jon Cassens hit a layup with :03.5 remaining to give Augsburg a 52-50 win over the Gusties on Wednesday at Gus Young Court. Gustavus had a ten-minute scoring drought in the first half as it went into halftime trailing 23-18 after shooting 7-of-29 (24.1 percent) from the floor. The Gusties dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the Auggies improved to 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference standings.

Carrie Gundersen Named MIAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Gustavus Adolphus College junior Carrie Gundersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) has been named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week. Gundersen swam the MIAC's fastest times this season in the 500 and 1650 freestyle at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite held this past weekend at the University of Minnesota. She set the conference's fastest time in the 500 freestyle by placing second with a time of 5:15.90.
