The Gustavus women’s soccer team continued to struggle to score goals falling 2-0 to Bethel at Gustavus on Saturday afternoon. The Gusties controlled play for much of the game out-shooting the Royals 16-11, while holding an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks, however Bethel scored twice in a three-minute span late in the first half and claimed the 2-0 victory.

Bethel took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when Jesse Tschetter scored with an assist from Breanna Posey. Just three minutes later, Posey scored on a corner kick giving the Royals a 2-0 lead with about three minutes left in the first half. Gustavus outshot Bethel 8-6 in the first half, but the Royals led 2-0 at the intermission.

Neither team was able to score in the second half. Gustavus held an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Bethel goalkeeper Charli Sorensen made 10 saves and picked up the win in the nets. Gustavus goalkeeper Ashley Ohlson made five saves as her season record fell to 6-6-0.

Gustavus is now 7-7-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the MIAC, while Bethel improves to 7-6-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the MIAC. The Gusties will play at UW-La Crosse on Sunday, while the Royals next match is Saturday, Oct. 20 at Augsburg at 6:00 pm.
