Through the wind and the rain, the Gustavus men’s cross country team turned in a 16th-place finish with 471 points at the 34 team Roy Griak Invitational Saturday morning. UW-La Crosse won the team competition with 53 points and all five runners finishing in the top 25. Junior John Leaf (Center City, Minn.) paced Gustavus with a 54th-place in 27:22.

The next four finishers for Gustavus were within one minute of each other. Sophomore Mark Hartman (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Chris deLaubenfels (Mount Vernon, Iowa) crossed the finish line at 28:05 for 85th-place and 28:18 for 97th-place, respectively. Senior Alex Horton (Northfield, Ill.) turned in his strongest finish of the season in 100th-place with a time of 28:20. First-year Jeremy Kuhn (St. Michael, Minn.) rounded out the top five finishers in 118th-place and a time of 28:31.

Coach Friedrich’s squad will compete at the MSU-Mankato Open Saturday, October 6 at 10:00 am.
