The Gustavus men’s golf team sent two teams to the Augsburg Invitational and came away with the tournament title by the Gustavus Gold squad and a fourth place finish by the Gustavus Black squad. Eric Harris, playing for the Gold squad claimed medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 72-72-144.
The Gustavus Gold squad finished 17 strokes ahead of Saint John’s University. The Johnnies are currently ranked #1 in the Golf Coaches Association of America’s (GCAA) Division III poll. The Gold unit was led by senior Eric Harris, who finished first at even par (72-72-144). Those behind Harris included senior Jordan Hawkinson, who finished second at 71-77-148, sophomore Ricky Copeland, who finished ninth at 75-76-151, sophomore AJ Olson, who placed 11th at 79-74-153 and Mark Stuckey, who finished 16th at 72-82-154.
The Gustavus Black squad finished fourth just eight shots behind second place Saint John’s and two shots behind third place UW-Eau Claire. First year player Ajeetesh Asndhu led the Black squad as he tied for second with a 36-hole total of 74-74-148. Other scores included junior Robbie Schmidt placing 11th at 77-76-153, sophomore Josh Curb placing 30th at 76-82-158, sophomore Derek Hilding finishing 35th at 79-80-159, and junior Kevin Horn placing 35th at 81-78-159.
Gustavus will send two teams to the Saint John’s Invitational this Saturday and Sunday.
