Gustavus junior wide receiver Chad Arlt has been honored by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the D3football.com website for his play against Willamette University last Saturday. Arlt was named co-Offensive Player of the Week by the MIAC and he was also placed on the D3football.com National Team of the Week after making 15 catches for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the Gusties 35-24 win over Willamette in St. Peter last weekend.

Arlt, a native of St. Michael, Minn., had a record-breaking day for the Gusties as he made 15 catches for 209 yards and two touchdowns to help Gustavus defeat Willamette 34-25 in St. Peter last Saturday. Arlt’s first touchdown catch a 33-yard strike from Jordan Stolp in the third quarter gave the Gusties a 13-7 lead. Early in the fourth quarter, Arlt made a 32-yard touchdown catch that gave Gustavus the lead for good at 20-17. Late in the fourth quarter, with Gustavus maintaining its slim 20-17 lead and facing a 2nd and 14 from the Gustavus 44-yard line, Arlt made a spectacular 20-yard catch that gave the Gusties a first down on the Willamette 24-yard line. Gustavus went on to score the clinching touchdown two plays later.

Arlt’s 15 catches broke the school record for catches in a game which was previously held by Ryan Hoag with 13. He also became only the second player in the program’s history to accumulate more than 200 yards receiving in a single game. The school record is 228 set by Rich Ryan in 1976.

The Gusties, who are now 1-0, will open MIAC play at St. Thomas this Saturday.
