Softball Set To Take Part In MIAC Post-Season Tournament Posted on May 4th, 2007 by

The Gustavus softball team is the #2 seed in the four-team MIAC Post-season tournament, which will take place at both Hamline University and Bethel University this Friday and Saturday. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Gusties will open tournament play on Friday against St. Mary’s (the #3 seed) at Hamline. Game time is 3:00 pm.

Gustavus finished the regular season with a record of 30-6 overall and 20-2 in the MIAC. The Gusties finished second behind St. Thomas which posted a perfect 22-0 mark. Coach Jeff Annis’ squad posted a record of 4-2 against the three other teams in the tournament including an 0-2 mark against #1 seed St. Thomas (0-8, 0-10), a 2-0 mark against #3 seed Saint Mary’s (3-2, 2-0), and a 2-0 mark against #4 seed Hamline (6-0, 4-0).

Gustavus will be making its fourth appearance in the four-year history of the MIAC Post-season tournament. The Gusties,who finished fourth in 2004 (0-2), third in 2005 (1-2), and second in 2006 (2-2), have compiled an all-time mark of 3-6 in MIAC Tournament play.

All games that Gustavus might qualify to play on Saturday will be broadcast by KNUJ Radio 860 AM and can be heard on the internet through the Gustavus broadcast page. Tom Wheeler will call the play-by-play.

First and second round games on Friday will be played at both Hamline and Bethel. Saturday’s games will all be played at Bethel. The schedule is listed below:
