The Gustavus Adolphus College track and field team hosted the Drake Alternative Outdoor Meet Saturday in St. Peter, posting a number of top-eight finishes. Tanner Miest (110 hurdles), Tyler Geyen (400 hurdles), and Andy Klaers (discus) captured titles for the Gustie men, while Krista Cruse (400 dash), Sari Lindeman (triple jump) and the 4×400 relay team took home titles for the Gustie women. No team scores were kept. The Gusties will compete at Hamline’s Meet of the UnSaintly Friday evening.

Gustavus men
The Gusties proved to be strong in both hurdles events with Tanner Miest (Sr., Willmar, Minn./New London-Spicer) taking the 110 hurdles title in 14.76 seconds. Tyler Geyen (So., Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) finished third in 14.98 seconds. Geyen followed that effort up with a win in the 400 hurdles, stopping the clock in 57.43. Eric Anderson (Sr., Southlake, Texas/Carroll) placed second (57.86).

Jake Fourre (Fr., Corcoran, Minn./Buffalo) led four Gusties in the top-nine in the 800 field, taking second in 1:58.99. Chris Ward (Sr., Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) placed fourth (2:02.07), followed by John Gamble (So., Appleton, Wis./North) in eighth (2:04.23) and Adam Schultz (Fr., Ely, Minn./Memorial) in ninth (2:05.45).

Dan Freeman (Jr., Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley) took fourth in the 3000 steeplechase (10:41.40), while Chris deLaubenfels (Jr., Mount Vernon, Iowa) finished fourth in the 1500 (4:10.63). John Leaf (So., Center City, Minn./Chisago Lakes) placed fourth in the 5000 (15:57.27), followed by Mark Hartman (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) in fifth (16:54.16). Cole Carlson (Fr., Mora, Minn.) took fifth in the 200 (22.36), just ahead of Adam Caulfield (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) in eighth (22.62).

In the field events, Andy Klaers (Sr., Loretto, Minn./Delano) took the win in the discus throw with a toss of 159-1 and placed fourth in the hammer throw (162-9) and 12th in the shot put (42-11). Luke Weyandt (Sr., Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) took fourth in the discus throw (138-6), fifth in the javelin throw (150-9), and eighth in the shot put (45-6 1/2).

Drew Hood (Jr., Mankato, Minn./West)
added a sixth-place finish in the pole vault (15-5), while also placing seventh in the javelin throw (147-10). Collin Rust (Fr., Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) placed in the top eight in both the long jump and the triple jump, placing seventh in the triple jump (37-9 1/4) and eighth in the long jump (18-7 3/4). Also, Aaron Gibson (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) took sixth in the long jump (20-1/4) for the Gusties.

The Gustavus men also posted runner-up finishes in the 4×100 (43.42), 4×400 (3:20.94), and 4×800 (8:48.94) relays.

Gustavus women
Sari Lindeman (Jr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) led the Gustavus women at the Drake Alternative, winning the triple jump with a leap of 37-3 1/4 and taking second in the long jump with an effort of 17-6 1/4. Janna Castellano (Sr., Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) finished second in the pole vault after clearing 11-11 3/4, while Lindsey TeBrake (So., Shakopee, Minn.) took fifth in the high jump (4-11).

Multi-event competitors Becca Bryson (Fy., Alden, Minn./Alden-Conger) and Kaelene Lundstrum (Fy., Bird Island, Minn./BOLD) each posted four top-eight finishes. Bryson placed second in the triple jump (36-9), fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:13.53), sixth in the javelin throw (93-8), and seventh in the high jump (4-11). Lundstrum took fourth in the 400 dash (1:02.88) and the shot put (39-11 1/4), sixth in the long jump (16-1/2) and eighth in the high jump (4-9).

Lundstrum’s effort in the 400 dash was one of four in the top-eight for the Gusties. Krista Cruse (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) won the event in 1:01.38, edging teammate Elizabeth Pringle (So., Northfield, Minn.), who finished in 1:01.71. Sam Madsen (So., Morgan, Minn./Cedar Mountain) took sixth (1:03.47).

Four Gustavus women also placed in the top-eight in the 200, led by a third-place finish by Linda Kanne (So., Franklin, Minn./Cedar Mountain). Kanne stopped the clock in 26.34, followed by Funto Okanla (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Arlington) in fourth (26.51), Lindeman in fifth (26.76), and Kelsey Becker (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) in seventh (27.17). Okanla (13.26) and Becker (13.58) also placed fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 100.

Jill Fagerstrom (So., Rosemount, Minn.) placed third in the 5000 (18:51.66), just ahead of teammate Laura Edlund (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) in sixth (19:15.43). Aryn Bell (So., Eden Prairie, Minn.) added a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles (15.93), while Heidi Bulfer (Sr., Fairmont, Minn.) took fourth in the 800 (2:31.59).

The Gustavus women also won the 4×100 relay (49.60) and the 4×400 relay (4:16.92).

Select members of the Gustavus track and field team will compete Thursday and Friday at the MIAC Multi-Events Championships in Northfield. The next meet for the rest of the team will be Friday at the Meet of the UnSaintly hosted by Hamline.
