Men’s Tennis Records Dual Victories Over Hamline, Concordia, and UW-Eau Claire Posted on February 12th, 2007 by

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s tennis team improved their overall record to 3-3 after posting 9-0 wins over Hamline, Concordia-Moorhead, and UW-Eau Claire Saturday. John Kauss (So., St. Paul, Minn./Harding) was a double-winner against both Hamline and UW-Eau Claire.

Gustavus Adolphus 9, Hamline University 0 – Box Score
Gustavus opened the day with a 9-0 win over conference foe Hamline at Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter. Kauss, Nick Hansen (So., Duluth, Minn./East), Danny Suchy (Sr., La Crosse, Wis./Central), Griffin Foley (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn./Mahtomedi), and Brian Laumeyer (Sr., Owatonna, Minn.) each posted a pair of wins over the Pipers, while Chad Olson (Jr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) scored a 7-5, 6-0 win over Jon Briemhorst at No. 2 singles and Ryan Dunn (Fr., Fond du Lac, Wis.) paired with Laumeyer to defeat Andrew VandeLinde and John Thorson 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Gustavus Adolphus 9, Concordia College-Moorhead 0 – Box Score
The Gusties sent part of their team to Fargo, N.D., later in the day to face Concordia-Moorhead in another MIAC dual. Andy Bryan (Jr., Edina, Minn.), Mike Burdakin (So., Bettendorf, Iowa), Aaron Zenner (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), Claudio Bravo (Sr., Tucson, Ariz./Rincon), Ashok Jethwa (So., Minot, N.D.), and Krishan Jethwa (Fr., Minot, N.D.) each picked up wins in doubles and singles play to record the sweep. Bryan, though, needed all three sets at No. 1 singles to defeat Jordy Kamerling. Bryan took the first set 6-4, then dropped the second 6-3 to the Cobber senior before taking the third set 10-4 in a super tie-breaker.

In the nightcap at the Swanson Tennis Center, the Gusties picked up a 9-0 sweep of UW-Eau Claire. Kauss picked up wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles to run his record to 4-0 on the day. Jesse Brauer (Sr., Mankato, Minn./West), Ben Tomasek (So., Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul), and Chad Olson were also double-winners against the Blugolds. Danny Suchy and Alex Horton (Jr., Newport, Wales, U.K./Winnetka New Trier [Ill.]) posted straight-set wins at No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively, while Nick Hansen paired with Kauss to record an 8-4 win over Aaron Nordenskjold and Phil Loprinzi at No. 2 doubles and David Koppel (So., Gahanna, Ohio/Lincoln) teamed with Olson to defeat Brandon Buth and Erik Brandner 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

The Gusties will host South Dakota State, Minnesota State Mankato, and Duquesne University this Saturday (Feb. 17), while also facing Macalester in a MIAC dual.
