Gustavus Adolphus College sophomore goaltender Kevin Johnson (Montrose, Minn.) has been named MIAC Men’s Hockey Player of the Week. Johnson recorded 63 saves in two games (.913 save percentage) to help the Gusties sweep St. Olaf and remain unbeaten in MIAC play with a mark of 8-0-0.
Johnson recorded 37 saves and allowed three goals in Friday night’s 4-3 win in St. Peter. On Saturday night, he turned away 26 shots and allowed three goals to help Gustavus claim a 4-3 overtime victory. Johnson was particularly impressive on the power play as he helped the Gusties limit the Oles to two goals on 20 power-play opportunities on the weekend. Johnson improved his mark to 10-3-0 overall and 8-0-0 in the MIAC. He ranks third in the MIAC in goals against average at 2.08 and fourth in save percentage at .912.
Gustavus will face Bethel in another key MIAC series this weekend. The two teams will square off at the National Sports Center in Blaine on Friday before coming to St. Peter and Don Roberts Ice Rink on Saturday evening. Both games are set to face-off at 7:00 pm.
