Men’s Soccer Wins Fifth Straight, 2-0 Against St. Thomas

The Gustavus men's soccer team won its fifth consecutive match while defeating conference rival St. Thomas 2-0 in St. Peter. Junior Mike Butterworth scored both of the goals in the first half for the Gusties. Gustavus improves to 10-1-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the MIAC. The Tommies fall to 9-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference.

Men’s Tennis Sends Three to ITA National Small College Championships

Gustavus Adolphus men's tennis players Jesse Brauer, Mike Burdakin and Charlie Paukert will participate in the 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Small College Championships October 12-15 at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers. The overall ITA "Super Bowl" of Small College Tennis champions on Oct. 15 will earn wild cards into the Nov. 2-5 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, hosted by The Ohio State University in Columbus.

Women’s Soccer Tops St. Thomas 3-2

Gustavus senior Amy Larson scored a goal and an assisted on another to lead the Gustie women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over St. Thomas Tuesday afternoon in St. Paul. Gustavus scored three consecutive goals after falling behind 1-0 in the 8th minute. The Gusties (5-6-2, 2-4-2 MIAC) will step out of league play this weekend to face UW-Stevens Point on Sunday afternoon in Stevens Point, Wis.

Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Twin Cities Classic

The Gustavus men's golf team fired a final-round 333 to place third at the Twin Cities Classic at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska. The Gusties' three-day total of 929 was 15 strokes off the pace set by team champion UW-Eau Claire (914) and nine back of runner-up Saint John's (920). Senior Erik Tone finished tied for ninth individually with a 54-hole total of 229 (+13). Gustavus will close out its fall schedule Oct. 30-31 at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Invitational in Chestnut Mountain, Ga.

Women’s Golf Second at MIAC Championships

The Gustavus women's golf team placed three individuals in the top 10, but could not overcome the play of St. Thomas' Holly Noble, who ran away with medalist honors while leading the Tommies to their sixth consecutive league crown Monday at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids. Noble shot a 9-over-par 228, outdistancing teammate Laura Klatt and Macalester's Jordan Matheson by 17 strokes. First-year Kali Griggs was the highest placed Gustie, finishing fourth with a 54-hole total of 249.

Men’s Cross Country Team Performs Well at the Dan Huston Invitational at Wartburg

The Gustavus men's cross-country team participated in the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday. The Huston Invitational is a unique meet in that there are two separate races offered, one was a four kilometer race (2.48 miles) and the other was a 8 kilometer race (4.97 miles). The Gusties finished 12th (out of 12) in the 4km race and 5th (out of 10) in the 8 km race.

Women’s Cross Country Finishes 5th Overall at Dan Huston Invite at Wartburg

The Gustavus women's cross-country team participated in the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday. The Huston Invitational is a unique meet in that there are two separate races run - a four kilometer race (2.48 miles) and a 6 kilometer race (4.97 miles). The Gusties finished 11th (out of 16) in the 4km race and 4th (out of 7) in the 6 km race.

Men’s Golf Tied for Third Entering Final Day of Twin Cities Classic

UW-Eau Claire shot a second-round 288 Sunday at the Links at Northfork in Ramsey to jump from fifth to first at the Twin Cities Classic. The Blugolds hold a seven-shot lead over Saint John's heading into the final 18 holes and a nine-shot advantage over both Central and host Gustavus. Erik Tone leads all Gusties with a 2-over-par total of 146 and is tied for fifth. The tournament concludes with 18 holes at Hazeltine National in Chaska on Monday.

Women’s Golf Second After 36 Holes at MIAC Championships

The Gustavus women's golf team remained in second place after Sunday's play at the 2006 MIAC Women's Golf Championships, but saw St. Thomas extend their lead to 21 strokes with 18 holes to play. Rachel Roberg (seventh), Kali Griggs (eighth) and Kimbra Kosak (tie-ninth) are all in the top ten for Gustavus. The tournament concludes Monday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Bunker Hills G.C. in Coon Rapids.

Volleyball Drops Two on Final Day of Border Battle Tournament, Burtzel Named to All-Tournament Team

The Gustavus volleyball team dropped two matches on the second day of the Border Battle Tournament hosted by Coe College In Cedar Rapids, IA. The Gusties lost to Simpson 3-2 on Saturday morning and then fell to the University of Dubuque 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
