Gustavus Adolphus College senior women’s golfer Breanne Staples (Windom, Minn./Windom Area) has been named Women’s Golfer of the Week by the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the week ending Sept. 25, 2006. Staples shot a 77 to take medalist honors during Sunday’s Division III Midwest Classic for her second collegiate victory.

Staples battled wind and tough conditions at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wis. to win by four shots over Megan Cress of Wartburg. Gustavus (334) captured the team title by a single stroke over Wartburg (335) for the team’s second victory of the fall season. It was also the third time in four meets that the Gusties were the highest-placed Division III school in the tournament.

Staples, a health fitness major, is the daughter of Alan and Linda Staples of Windom and a 2003 graduate of Windom Area High School.
