Gustavus Adolphus College softball player Joyce DeWitz (Good Thunder, Minn.) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 2, 2006. DeWitz, a junior, compiled a 4-1 record with a earned run average of 0.93 as she allowed 17 hits and four earned runs in 30.2 innings of work while striking out 30 and walking 15.
The Gusties posted a record of 7-1 including a 6-0 mark on their spring break trip to Orlando, Florida. DeWitz pitched all nine innings in the Gusties 7-6 win over regionally rated DePauw, and then scattered six hits and allowed one earned run while striking out 12 in the team’s 7-1 win over regionally rated UW-Whitewater. This past Saturday, DeWitz did not allow an earned run and limited Augsburg to two hits in six innings of work, but the Gusties lost 1-0 to the Auggies. She then pitched two and two-thirds innings of the second game and did not allow a hit, picking up the win as the Gusties claimed a 4-3 victory. On the season, DeWitz is 4-3 with a 2.98 earned run average.
DeWitz, a history major, is the daughter of David and Ann DeWitz of Good Thunder and a 2003 graduate of Maple River High School.
