Women’s Hockey Rallies to Beat Williams 3-2 Posted on February 4th, 2006 by

The Gustavus women’s hockey team wrapped up its challenging East Coast trip with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Williams College on Saturday evening. The game was played at Middlebury College in Vermont. Kelly Crandall tied the score at 2-2 with goal at 12:51 of the third and then Molly Doyle scored the gamewinner at 14:08 mark. The Gusties improve to 15-3-1 overall, while Williams falls to 8-9-1.

Gustavus took a 1-0 lead in the game when Jaclyn Dufault scored at the 3:46 mark of the second period. Abigail Taylor scored a shorthanded goal for Williams to tie the score at 1-1 just two minutes later (5:56). The second period ended with the score tied at 1-1.

Williams took a 2-1 lead when Melissa Vandermyn scored at the 7:15 mark of the third period. Gustavus rallied to tie the score at 2-2 on a power play goal by Kelly Crandall at the 12:51 mark. Just :90 seconds later, Molly Doyle scored what turned out to be the gamewinner when she lit the lamp at the 14:08 mark. Williams pulled its goaltender for the last minute of play, but the Gusties held on for the win.

Amanda Rosequist was the winning goaltender for Gustavus. She recorded 14 saves.

Gustavus will face the University of St. Thomas in a critical MIAC series next weekend. The two teams will play in St. Peter on Friday night and then head to Mendota Heights for the series finale on Saturday evening. Gustavus is currently 15-3-1 overall and 12-0-0 in the MIAC, while St. Thomas is 17-1-0 overall and 12-0-0 in the MIAC.
