Gustavus women’s cross country runner Hailey Harren (Jr., Cold Spring, Minn.) has been named the 2005 MIAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year after claiming the individual title at last weekend’s MIAC Cross Country Championships. Harren traversed the 6-kilometer course in 21:53, crossing the line 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Keidra Anderson of Hamline. The Gusties finished fourth in the team race.

Harren, who picked up her fourth individual title of the season and All-MIAC honors, was also named Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the MIAC for her performance at Como Park. It is the third time this season that Harren has been selected for the honor.

The junior harrier became only the second Gustie female to capture the individual championship. Sarah Edmonds accomplished the feat in 1992, the same season she claimed the individual title at the NCAA Divison III Women’s Cross Country Championships.

The Gusties are idle until November 12, when they will travel to Waverly, Iowa to participate in the NCAA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Wartburg College. The meet, scheduled to take place on the grounds of the Waverly Municipal Golf Course is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
