Women’s Soccer Draws With St. Kate’s 1-1 Posted on October 15th, 2005 by

The Gustavus women’s soccer team received a goal from first-year Christy Tupy (Eagan, Minn.) in the final ten minutes of regulation and held on for a 1-1 tie in double overtime Saturday against the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. The Gusties move to 4-9-1 with the draw.

The Gusties fell behind 1-0 on a goal by St. Kate’s Jenna Undresser in the 15th minute and kept 12 other Wildcat shots out of the net in regulation.

Tupy provided the equalizer in the 81st minute, one of 13 shots unleashed by the Gusties toward the net during regulation play.

Gustie keeper Ashley Ohlson (Fy., Anchorage, Alaska) picked up nine saves in her first decision of the season. Ohlson and the rest of the Gustavus defense survived a number of Wildcat opportunities during the two overtime periods. St. Kate’s out-shot the Gusties 5-1 during the 20 minutes of extra time.

The Gusties move to 4-9-1 overall, 1-6-1 in the MIAC. The tie allows St. Kate’s (5-6-2, 1-5-2 MIAC) to remain one point ahead of Gustavus in the league standings. Gustavus returns to the pitch Wednesday afternoon, stepping out of the MIAC to face Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. St. Kate’s travels to St. Thomas for a MIAC tilt.
