Women’s Golf Topples Records at Midwest Classic Posted on September 24th, 2005 by

The Gustavus women’s golf team sits atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Midwest Classic thanks to a pair of school-record performances on Saturday. The Gusties shot a 18-hole team score of 313 to lead St. Thomas by four strokes. The old mark of 320 was set in 2004 at the Northern Kentucky Invitational and equaled earlier this fall during the UW-Eau Claire Invitational.

Senior Kelli Groff (Bloomington, Minn.) leads the medalist competition after posting a school-record 74 on day one. The previous mark of 75, which first-year Kimbra Kosak (Grand Rapids, Minn.) equalled with her round on Saturday, was originally set by Kelsey Getz at the 2004 Northern Kentucky Invitational.

The tournament, hosted by Carleton College, will conclude with another 18 holes on Sunday.
