The Gustavus women’s cross country team placed two runners in the top five but could not overcome Wartburg and the College of Saint Benedict during Saturday’s Saint John’s Invitational. Wartburg placed eight runners in the top 20, outdistancing Saint Benedict in the team race, 32-62. The Gusties finished third with 64 team points.
Gustavus junior Hailey Harren crossed the finish line in first place, clocking a time of 22:07. Harren’s time was over one minute better than second-place finisher Leah Wurm of the College of Saint Benedict. Kourtney Joyce, another Gustie senior, finished fifth in a time of 24:03. Laura Edlund also cracked the top 20 for Gustavus, finishing 19th after stopping the clock in 24:58.
