The Gustavus women’s track and field team competed at the Meet of the Unsaintly hosted by Hamline University on Friday, May 6 in St. Paul. No team scores were kept.
The Gusties took the top three spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior Kourtney Joyce (Wadena, Minn.) led the Gusties with a winning time of 11:26.79. Sophomore Val Berquam (Kenyon, Minn.) placed second with a time of 11:49.86 and first-year Lydia Davitt (Minneapolis, Minn.) placed third with a time of 12:10.50.
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Carlie Hanson (Buffalo, Minn.) placed second with a time of 65.90. Senior Ali Cordie (Sartell, Minn.) placed third with a time of 66.76.
In the field events, senior Kristi Schneider (Hastings, Minn.) tied her season best and school record in the pole vault. Schneider cleared a height of 11-5.75 to place third overall. First-year Shanna Dawson (Fairmont, Minn.) placed fourth in the pole vault clearing a height of 10-11.75.
Other top performers were seniors Michelle Steadman (Wayzata, Minn.) and Jose Thulien (St. James, Minn.). Steadman placed second in the javelin with a distance of 103-4. Thulien placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 115-2 and fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 119-4.
Gustavus will compete in the MIAC Championships on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14. Macalester College will host the conference meet in St. Paul, Minn.
