Men’s Track Competes at Hamline University Posted on May 8th, 2005 by

The Gustavus men’s track and field team competed at the Meet of the Unsaintly hosted by Hamline University on Friday, May 6 in St. Paul, Minn. No team scores were kept.

Senior Alex Kestly (Chisholm, Minn.) was the lone Gustie to win an event. Kestly won the discus throw with a distance of 151-9. The senior also placed fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 153-6. Sophomore Andy Klaers (Delano, Minn.) placed sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 152-9. Freshman Brad Johnson (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) placed second in the long jump with distance of 20-5.75.

In the running events, junior Jack Henkemeyer (Plymouth, Minn.) placed second in the 200-meter (22.64) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (49.86). Junior Mark Fincham (Edina, Minn.) recorded a time of 57.28 to place third in the 400-meter hurdles, while sophomore Tanner Miest (Watertown, Minn.) placed fourth with a time of 57.65. Miest also placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.76.

Other top performers were distance runners sophomore Alex Zupan (Monona, Wis.) and senior James Sorenson (Hastings, Minn.). Zupan placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:00.10, while Sorenson placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:00.02.

Gustavus will compete in the MIAC Championships on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14. Macalester College will host the conference meet in St. Paul, Minn.
