The Gustavus Adolphus College men’s golf team won its second tournament of the spring on Sunday, April 24. The Gusties compiled a 36-hole score of 292-287–579 to win the Saint John’s University Invitational. Gustavus’ score of 579 tied with UW-Eau Claire; however, the Gusties won the tie-breaker with a lower fifth-man score. The tournament took place at the Monticello Country Club in Monticello, Minn.
The Gusties had three golfers place in the top ten. Jon Hagedorn (Junior, Blue Earth, Minn.) led the Gusties by placing first overall. Hagedorn earned the individual medalist honor with a 36-hole total of 72-67–139, finishing three strokes below par. His second round score of 67 is his best 18-hole score this spring; as well as the team’s best 18-hole total this spring.
Mark Stuckey (Freshman, St. Peter, Minn.) placed fourth overall with a score of 70-72–142. Clayton Johnson (Junior, Anoka, Minn.) rounded out the top ten for Gustavus. Johnson tied for tenth place with a score of 74-74–148.
Gustavus will now wait to see if they are selected to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships. The Gusties are the returning national champions and are in search of their ninth consecutive national tournament appearance under the direction of Scott Moe and 21st consecutive in school history. The championships will take place May May 9-12 at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
