Gustavus sophomore Andrea Peterson has been named Women’s Hockey Player of the Week by the MIAC. Peterson, a defender, scored five goals and contributed two assists for seven points as the Gusties swept the College of Saint Benedict 6-1 and 11-0. Peterson scored three goals in Friday’s 6-1 win in St. Cloud and then added two goals and two assists in Saturday’s 11-0 win in St. Peter. Peterson, who ranks second in Division III in points per game at 2.22, increased her season point total to 51 with 25 goals and 26 assists. She becomes only the third player in Gustavus women’s hockey history to score 50 points in a season.
The Gusties are currently 20-2-1 overall and 16-0-0 in the MIAC. The team is in the midst of a 32-game winning streak against MIAC opponents.
Coach Mike Carroll’s squad, which is currently in first place in the conference, will play second place St. Thomas for the regular season MIAC championship this weekend.
