Men’s Indoor Track & Field Places Third at Ted Nelson Classic

The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team placed third at the Ted Nelson Classic on Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. Alex Zupan won the 5,000 meter run, Tanner Miest won the 60 meter hurdles, and Drew Hood won the pole vault.

The Gustavus men’s indoor track and field team compiled 57 points and placed third at the Ted Nelson Classic on Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. Host Minnesota State University, Mankato won the classic with 104 points.

In the running events, Alex Zupan and Tanner Miest won their events. Zupan recorded a time of 2:33.13 to win the 1,000 meter race. Tanner Miest won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.59. Other notable performers were Jack Henkemeyer and Anthony Schulzetenberg. The duo placed third and fourth in the 60 meter dash with times of 7.11 and 7.24, respectively.

In the field events, Drew Hood was the lone winner for the Gusties. Hood won the pole vault by clearing a height of 14′ 3.50″. In the weight throw, Gustavus claimed the second and third place spots. Alex Kestly threw a distance of 49′ 3.75″ to place second and Andy Klaers placed third with a distance of 44′ 8″.

Gustavus will return to action next Saturday at the University of Minnesota Invite in Minneapolis, Minn.
