Men’s Basketball Defeats Carleton 73-66 Posted on February 2nd, 2005 by

The Gustavus men’s basketball team traveled to Northfield to play Carleton in a key MIAC game on Wednesday night. The Gusties shot 61.9 percent (26-42) from the field and 56.3 percent (9-16) from the three point line to claim a 73-66 victory. The Gusties improve to 14-5 overall and 12-2 in the MIAC, while the Knights fall to 12-8 overall and 10-5 in the MIAC.

Senior Doug Espenson led the Gusties with a double-double on Wednesday night. Espenson scored 21 points and recorded 10 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. Adam TeBrake and Andrew Olson were also in double-digits for the Gusties. TeBrake shot 6-12 from the field and 5-9 from behind the arc for 17 points. Olson recorded 16 points shooting 5-5 from the field, 4-4 from the three point line and 2-3 from the free-throw line.

Dan Forkrud led the Knights with a game high 26 points. Kyle Beste added 18 points for the Knights and Jake Phillips added ten in the home conference loss.

The Gusties will return to MIAC action against Saint Mary’s in Winona this Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 3pm.
