Men’s Swimming Places Second at Carthage Invite Posted on December 5th, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s swimming team traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin to compete against seven other teams at the Carthage Invitational December 3-4. The Gusties compiled 835.50 team points to place second overall, which was 30 points ahead of conference rival St. Olaf (805.50). Host Carthage College won the invitational with 884 team points.

The Gusties claimed one relay event title. The team of Scott Hagemeyer, Brian Amundson, Evan Christianson and Will Sutor won the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.86. The Gusties placed second in the 400 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Jeff Pearson, Brad Hammer, Sutor and Hagemeyer recorded a time of 3:34.57 to place second in the 400 medley relay, while the team Sutor, Amundson, Ben Hanson and Hagemeyer recorded a time of 3:08.63 to place second in the 400 freestyle relay.

Individually, the Gusties claimed one event title and recorded two second place finishes. Will Sutor won the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.55, while Scott Hagemeyer placed second in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle with times of 21.31 and 47.04, respectively.

The Gusties will return to action on January 15 when they host MIAC opponent Carleton College in a dual meet.
