Men’s Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to 24 Posted on September 22nd, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s soccer team defeated Northwestern College (Roseville, Minn.) 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties extend their unbeaten streak to 24 games (17wins and 7 ties) with the non-conference victory.

Gustavus opened up the scoring in the ninth minute with a goal from Bobby Kroog. Chris Pinahs took a pass from Taylor Stein and served the ball back across the mouth of the goal to Kroog. Kroog fired the shot into the back of the net to record his fourth goal of the season.

In minute 33, Jeffrey Johnson got around an Eagle defender near the endline and served a pass back to Matt Broin. Broin placed the shot into the goal to make it 2-0 in favor of Gustavus. Joe Hartwell made it 3-0 just before halftime with a direct free kick from 30-yards out in the center of the field. Hartwell drove a shot past the four-man wall and the Eagle goalkeeper was unable to handle the shot.

Taylor Stein scored his third goal of the season in the second half of play. In minute 58 Stein scored the final goal of the match on a breakaway placing the ball past the Northwestern goalkeeper into the lower left corner of the goal.

Gustavus goalkeeper Andy Moulton made three saves and recorded his third win and fourth shutout of the season.

Gustavus improves to 6-0-2 and will host St. John’s University at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 25. The Gusties are ranked 12th in the nation and second in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as of September 21.
