Women’s Soccer Loses 2-1 to St. Olaf Posted on September 16th, 2004 by

The Gustavus women’s soccer team opened conference play by hosting St. Olaf College on Thursday afternoon in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties lost 2-1 to the Oles in a hard fought game. St. Olaf improves to 3-1-0 overall and 1-0 in the MIAC, while the Gusties drop to 1-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the MIAC.

St. Olaf got on the scoreboard first with a goal from Kara Knutson in the 15th minute of play. The Gusties tied the match at one goal apiece in the 42nd minute of the first half. Amy Larson scored the goal for Gustavus off of a pass from Kara Knutson.

The match was evenly fought in the second half with both teams unable to convert on scoring opportunities. The Oles took the lead in the 76th minute with another goal from Knutson. Gustie goalkeeper Tori Boughton came out to challenge Knutson inside the penalty box, but Knutson was able to touch it around her and play it into the empty net for the gamewinner.

Gustavus will be back in action on Saturday when they host Concordia College at 1pm.
