Men’s Soccer Defeats Nebraska Wesleyan 4-0 Posted on September 12th, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s soccer team defeated Nebraska Weslayan 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in St. Peter, Minnesota. Bobby Kroog, Tore Johnston, Jeff Aasness and Neil Nelson were the goalscorers for Gustavus. The Gusties improve to 4-0-1 overall and extend their unbeaten streak to 21 games.

Bobby Kroog recorded his third goal of the season to put the Gusties up 1-0 at 7:38 of the first half. Joe Hartwell served a cross from just over half on the right side of the field. Kroog redirected the cross with his head into the upper right corner of the goal past the diving Prairie Wolve goalkeeper. At 42:38, Tore Johnston made it 2-0 in favor of Gustavus. Nebraska Wesleyan were unable to clear the ball and Johnston took the ball on his right foot and placed a shot into the lower right corner of the goal.

The Gusties kept the pressure on the Prairie Wolves in the second half of play. Jeff Aasness scored the third goal of the match 1:16 into the second half off a pass from Mike Butterworth. Neil Nelson scored the final goal for Gustavus on a ball flicked over the Praire Wolves defense by Butterworth. Nelson held off the Nebraska Wesleyan defender and snuck the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 4-0. Gustavus goalkeeper Nate Hitch made two saves on Sunday to earn his second shutout of the season.

Gustavus will travel to St. Olaf College on Wednesday to open conference play.

In other soccer action, Loras College defeated Concordia College 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. Tony Stehn, Nick Sullivan and Tyler Knopp were the goalscorers for the Duhawks. Constant Maninga scored the lone goal for the Cobbers.
