Men’s Soccer Ties Puget Sound 1-1 Posted on September 5th, 2004 by

Gustavus and Puget sound battled to 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of soccer on Sunday afternoon in Tacoma, Washington.

The 18th ranked Gusties took the lead first with a goal from Chad Ransom at 34:39 of the first half. Jordan Iblings dribbled into the attack from his right back position and two Logger defenders were able to tackle the ball away. The ball was received by Ransom just to the right of the goal inside of the penalty box. The senior took the ball on his right foot and struck it past the Logger goalkeeper into the lower left corner to give the Gusties a 1-0 lead.

in the second half the Loggers brought extra attackers forward in an attempt to equalize. With just over a minute left to play in the game, the Loggers tied the game. Gustavus goalkeeper Andy Moulton fisted out a Logger cross and the ball was settled by Puget Sound midfielder Mike Gallegos. Gallegos layed the ball off to teammate Anthony Fioretti just outside the penaltly box. Fioretti curled a left footed shot into the lower corner to tie the game with 1:28 to play. The game went to overtime and the teams played two ten minute overtime periods with neither team able to score.

The game ended as a 1-1 draw wth the Loggers outshooting the Gusties 8-7 and holding a 8-6 advantage on corner kicks. Brian Lawson recorded fives saves for the Loggers to earn his second tie of the season. Andy Moulton recorded three saves for the Gusties and improved his record to 1-0-1.

The Gusties will be back in action on Saturday, September 11th when they host Loras College.
