Men’s Track & Field Places Fourth in MIAC Championships Posted on May 9th, 2004 by

The Gustavus Adolphus men’s track and field team earned 77.5 points to place fourth in the MIAC Championships Meet. The conference meet took place Friday and Saturday at St.Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. Ten Gusties earned all-conference honors by placing in the top three of their event.

In the field events, first-year Andy Klaers threw a distance of 149-5 to win the discus throw to earn all-conference honors. Junior Alex Kestly earned all-conference honors by placing second in the discus with a distance of 147-2. Sophomore Joe Atkinson threw distance of 46-6.75 to place third in the shot put and earn all-conference honors.

In the relays, the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams earned all-conference honors. The team of Adam Cordes, Anthony Schulzetenberg, Matt Diercks and Jack Henkemeyer recorded a time of 42.20 to place third in the 4×100-meter relay. In the 4×400-meter relay, the team of Stephen Handler, Anthony Schulzetenberg, Matt Wittman and Jack Henkemeyer placed third with a time 3:18.23.

In other events, Tanner Miest placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.11 to earn all-conference honors. Sophomore Jack Henkemeyer earned all-conference honors by placing second in the 400-meter dash with a NCAA provisional time of 48.23. Henkemeyer also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.36.
