Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Hosts Drake Alternative

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field team hosted the fourth annual Drake Alternative Saturday in St. Peter, Minn. The women won four individual events and two relays. The men won the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays.

The Gustavus men’s and women’s track & field team hosted the fourth annual Drake Alternative Saturday in St. Peter.

For the women, Junior, Tasha Pike won the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:43.40, while first-year Hailey Harren recorded a time of 19:58.71 to place third. In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Ashley Cronen won with a time of 59.06 and senior Kim Swanson placed second with a time of 59.83. Junior Ali Cordie recorded a time of 1:07.68 to win the 400-meter hurdles. Sophomore Blythe Bittman placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.16.

For the men, senior Drew Scanlan placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:32.7. In the 400-meter dash, sophomore Jack Henkemeyer placed second with a time of 48.87. Freshman Adam Caulfield finished in second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.01, while freshman Matt Sinnen placed third with a time of 57.76. In the 200-meter dash, senior Stephen Handler placed third with a time of 22.91.

In the field events for the women, senior Jackie Luehmann placed second in the shot put and hammer throw with a distances of 44′ and 148′, respectively. Senior Kristin Petersen placed third in the discus and fourth in the shot put with distances of 144′ 10″ and 38′ 10.5″, respectively. In the long jump, sophomore Kalee Schrupp placed third jumping a distance of 15′ 8.75″. Senior Lindsey Weis jumped a distance of 33′ 10″ in the triple jump to place second. Schrupp placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 33′ 1″.

In the field events for the men, freshman Luke Weyandt placed fourth in the javelin with distance 144′ 10″. In the triple jump, senior Matt Diercks placed fourth with a distance of 39′ 10.75″. Freshman Andy Klaers placed fourth in the discus with a distance of 147′ 11″.

In the relays for the women, the 4×100 team of Cronen, Swanson, senior Maggie Stolp and Bittman recorded a time of 51.47 to place first. In the 4×400-meter relay, the team of Swanson, Cordie, Cronen and Bittman placed first with a time of 4:01.56.

In the relays for the men, the team of Cordes, freshman Anthony Schulzetenberg, Diercks and Henkemeyer recorded a time of 42.92 to win the 4×100. The team of Schulzetenberg, Caulfield, Stephen Handler and Henkemeyer won the 4×400 with a time of 3:21.2.

The teams will travel to Northfield, Minnesota to compete in the MIAC Multi-Events Meet on April 29-30.
