Softball Extends Win Streak to Eight Games with Sweep of St. Kate’s Posted on April 4th, 2004 by

The Gustavus softball team improved its record to 6-0 in the MIAC by sweeping St. Catherine 1-0 and 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in St. Peter. After starting the season with a 2-8 record, the Gusties are now 10-8 overall.

The Gusties combined timely hitting with strong pitching to claim the sweep over the Wildcats. In game one, Gustavus picked up the lone run of the game in the second inning when Jennifer Knutson singled to drive in Ann Syverson from second base. That would turn out to be the only run the Gusties would need as Molly Biehn threw her fourth consecutive shutout while scattering four hits. Biehn has thrown 28 consecutive scoreless innings.

In game two, Sara Medved allowed only two hits, while recording her first shutout of the season. Medved also had a big day at the plate as she went two-for-three with two doubles and one rbi. Audrey Lenoch had a big day as well picking up three hits in three at-bats and scoring two runs. Lenoch is hitting .590 (13-for-22) in the Gusties eight-game win streak with eight rbi, and 10 runs scored.

The Gusties, who are now 10-8 overall and 6-0 in the MIAC, will host Martin Luther College of New Ulm in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, April 5 at 3:00 pm.
