Softball Sweeps Buena Vista, 7-0 and 5-4

The Gustavus softball team pushed its winning streak to four games with a non-conference sweep over Buena Vista University by the scores of 7-0 and 5-4. The Gusties improve to 6-8 on the season, while the Beavers fall to 2-11.

The Gustavus softball team pushed its winning streak to four games with a non-conference sweep over Buena Vista University by the scores of 7-0 and 5-4. The Gusties improve to 6-8 on the season, while the Beavers fall to 2-11.

In the first game, Molly Biehn tossed her second consecutive shutout as she scattered five hits and allowed only two runners past second base in the contest. Audrey Lenoch continued her torrid hitting streak as she picked up four hits, drove in three runs and scored two runs in the opener. Ingrid Olson and Sara Medved contributed two hits apiece.

In the second game, the two teams battled well into the twilight as Gustavus scored the gamewinner in the bottom of the sixth. The Gusties put the Beavers down in order in the top of the seventh as darkness threatened to end the game. In the sixth, Mary Furlong opened the inning with a single and was then sacrificed to second by Jennifer Knutson. With two outs, Claire Mielke stroked a single to center field driving Furlong in with the winning run. Sara Medved picked the win up on the mound for the Gusties as she allowed four earned runs and scattered seven hits. Molly Biehn had the hot bat for the Gusties as she picked up three hits including two doubles and drove in four runs.

The Gusties will host Concordia in a MIAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 3 at 1:00 pm.
