Men’s Swimming in Ninth Place at NCAA Championships Posted on March 19th, 2004 by

The Gustavus men’s swimming team is in ninth place with 89.5 points after the second day of the NCAA Division III Championships being held in St. Louis, Missouri. The Gusties were in seventh place after the first day of competition with 63.5 points.

Coach Jon Carlson’s squad started the day with a 10th place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Mike Maynard, Mark Maynard, Will Sutor and Scott Hagemeyer posted a time of 1:34.26. Kenyon finished first with a time of 1:29.02.

Junior Will Sutor added to the Gusties point total with an 11th place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 50.36. Andrejs Duda of Kenyon won the race with a time of 48.07.

The 800 free relay team closed out the day with a 14th place finish. The team of Brian Amundson, Scott Hagemeyer, Seth Weidmann and Will Sutor posted a time of 7:01.10. Kenyon won the race with a time of 6:38.87.

Gustavus with 89.5 points has more than tripled its previous point total at the NCAA Championships which was 24 points in both 2002 and 2003.

The NCAA Division III Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships will conclude on Saturday. The Gusties will compete in the 100 freestyle, the 200 butterfly and the 400 free relay.
