Women’s Track and Field Opens Indoor Season

The Gustavus women’s track and field team opened its indoor season by hosting a five-team meet in the Lund Center. The Gusties were led by Jackie Luehmann (shot put, weight throw) and Blythe Bittman (55m, 200m, long jump).

The Gustavus women’s track and field team opened its indoor season by hosting a five-team meet in the Lund Center. Joining the Gusties at the meet were Macalester, Martin Luther, Carleton and St. Catherine. No team scores were kept. The Gusties were led by double-winner Jackie Luehmann (shot put, weight throw) and triple-winner Blythe Bittman (55m, 200m, long jump).

Luehmann, a returning All-American, won the shot put with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 44′ 4.25″. She posted a winning mark of 46′ 4.25″ in the weight throw. Bittman, a sophomore sprinter and jumper, won the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.53, the 200 meter dash in a time of 27.21 and the long jump with a mark of 15′ 9.75″).

Other event winners for Gustavus included Ali Cordie in the 55 meter hurdles (9.46), Ashley Cronen in the 400 meter dash (1:02.06), Nichole Petersen in the 3000 meter run (10:26.18), and Shannon Martin in the pole vault (14′ 2.50″).

The Gusties won 10 events in the meet. Carleton and Macalester each won two events, while St. Catherine’s claimed one event.
