Women’s Swimming Claims Exciting 125-118 Dual Meet Win over St. Olaf Posted on November 8th, 2003 by

The women’s swimming team picked up a hard-fought 125-118 dual meet victory over St. Olaf on Friday, November 8 at the Lund Center Natatorium in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties claimed the win in the final event when the 400 free relay team of Jessica Coleman, Katie Garvey, Laura Watkins and Beth DeLaRosby claimed first place with a time of 3:39.32. It was the first dual meet of the year for both Gustavus and St. Olaf.

The 400 free relay was one of six events that the Gusties won in the meet. Other first place finishes included the 400 yard medley relay team of Katherine Haynes, Eva Miller, Yoshi Ludwig, and Jessica Coleman, Beth DeLaRosby in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle,, Jess Weggemann in the 500 yard freestyle, and Eva Miller in the 200 yard breaststroke. Depth was a key factor for the Gusties as they claimed six second place finishes and four third place finishes to nip the Oles.

Two pool records were broken during the meet. The first was set by St. Olaf’s Carly Knoell in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:59.94. The old mark was 11:01.01 set in 1997. The second was set by the Gustavus 400 yard free relay team of Jessica Coleman, Katie Garvey, Laura Watkins and Beth DeLaRosby with a time of 3:39.32. The old mark was 3:43.26 set by Young, Brasel, Garvey and DeLaRosby on Nov. 18, 2002.
