Havemeier Named MIAC Player of the Week Posted on October 27th, 2003 by

Loren Havemeier, a sophomore defensive back on the Gustavus football team, was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Havemeier returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown in the Gusties’ 28-7 win over Hamline. It was his first career punt return for a touchdown. Havemeier broke the school record for punt return yards in a game with 95. His 79-yard return is the second longest return in school history. The previous record for most punt return yards in a game was held by Brent Schultze who had 92 punt return yards against St. Olaf in 1997. The school record for longest punt return is 88 yards by Buster West in 1969.

St. Olaf’s Nick Rost, a running back, was named this week’s offensive player of the week. Augsburg’s Brandon Fox, a linebacker was the conference’s defensive player of the week.

Gustavus returns to action this Saturday by hosting Azusa Pacific University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Lloyd Hollingsworth Field.
