The Gustavus women’s soccer team lost to Carleton 1-0 on the Gustie Soccer Field in St. Peter, Minn. on Saturday afternoon. Carleton forward Stephanie Johnson scored the gamewinner with just over six minutes remaining (83:36) in regulation play. The loss drops Gustavus to 1-3-1 in the MIAC and 4-4-1 overall, while Carleton improves to 4-2-0 in the MIAC and 6-4-0 overall.
Carleton’s winning goal was scored when Stephanie Johnson raced down the right side of the field and slid the ball on the ground past a diving Lindsey LaVoie into the lower left corner of the net.
The contest was very evenly played with Carleton outshooting the Gusties 11-8 while also holding a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Sarah Granofsky made two saves in picking up the win in the nets for Carleton, while Lindsey LaVoie made six saves in suffering the loss for Gustavus.
