Men’s Golf Team Wins MIAC Title Posted on October 4th, 2003 by

The Gustavus men’s golf team claimed its second consecutive MIAC Championship at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. The Gusties, who were three shots behind St. Thomas after the first day, finished 14 strokes ahead of second place St. John’s. Gustavus fired a sizzling 289 team score on Saturday afternoon which was 12 shots better than second place St. John’s (301) and 24 shots better than third place St. Thomas (313).

Individually, all five Gustavus golfers earned all-conference honors. Luke Benoit led the way as he finished second with a total of 73-71-144. Neil Johnson finished third at 73-73-146, while Brent Borgstahl placed fifth at 75-73-148. Borgstahl was followed by Brady Hoffman in seventh place at 77-72-149 and Chase Thonvold in ninth place at 78-76-154. This is only the second time in school history that all five Gustie golfers placed in the top ten and earned all-conference honors. The other time was in the fall of 1989. This is the 18th title for Gustavus in the past 23 years.
