The Gustavus men’s golf team finished second out of 14 teams at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Frank Wigglesworth Invitational played at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club. The Gusties finished 10 strokes behind host UW-Eau Claire. The Blugolds posted a 36-hole total of 286-297-583, while Gustavus finished with a total of 296-297-593. Senior Luke Benoit continued his fine play for the Gusties as he finished second with a total of 72-69-141. Benoit’s two-under par 69 on Monday was the low round of the day and the second lowest round in the tournament. Senior Neil Johnson also had a strong tournament as he finished third with total of 72-73-145. Others scoring for Gustavus included senior Brent Borgstahl placing 13th with a total of 77-76-153, sophomore Brady Hoffman placing 41st with a total of 80-79-159 and freshman Tony Oberle placing 47th with a total of 75-85-160.
Gustavus will host the 22-team Twin Cities Classic this Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The first round will be played at Elk River Country Club, the second round at The Links at Northfork and the third round at Wayzata Country Club.
