Women’s Golf Finishes Third at Southwest State Invitational Posted on September 21st, 2003 by

The women’s golf team continued its fine play this fall with a strong third place finish at the 13-team Southwest State Invitational played at Marshall (Minn.) Golf Club. The Gusties fired a 36-hole team score of 334-341-675 to finish 34 shots behind team champion Nebraska-Omaha. Gustavus was led by sophomore Kelli Groff who placed 12th with a score of 83-84-167. Other Gustie individual scores included sophomore Andrea Nelson in 18th place at 80-88–168, junior Katie Aplin in 21st place at 85-85-170, sophomore Erin Schliep in 31st place at 88-85-173, junior Kelsey Getz in 38th place at 90-87-177, sophomore Alana Reetz in 56th place at 86-96-182, junior Steph Polzin in 48th place at 93-86-179 and freshman Breanne Staples in 48th place at 95-84-179. The Gusties picked up several key head-to-head wins over regional foes St. Ben’s, St. Thomas and Concordia-Moorhead. Coach Wayne Norman’s squad has not lost to a Division III Central Region team this fall.
